If there was a poll conducted, asking people with all different tastes what their favourite window style is, we would predict the sash window would probably come very close to the top, knocking all others out of the park as such. It oozes style and class, with its simple yet classic design. In fact, it reminds a lot of us of beautiful Victorian terraced houses nestled in some affluent corner of Notting Hill, but it succeeds in eluding beauty wherever it’s installed, on a variety of property types. The sash window doesn’t just look good, it also has a lot of practical, functional features, too. The easy to lift design means you can air out a room in a matter of minutes, offering immediate ventilation when the moveable panel is pushed to the sky. With our design, we try and keep the original aspects but substitute the timber for UPVC. This requires a lot less maintenance than the traditional materials and is best suited for people who don’t want too much upkeep, just like this resident. It’s also a more longer-lasting and durable material swap, perfect for keeping the windows looking fresh despite the weather, as the years roll on.
With this example, the sash windows included delicate Georgian bars to match the new set of French doors they had installed, too. With the addition of double doors with top to floor glass, the resident will most certainly be spending a lot more time outside. Throwing the doors open on a beautiful sunny day on the way for a day basking in the warmth of the garden, firing up the barbeque, or filling up the paddling pool for the little ones. We’re very well-accustomed to shaping sash windows to suit the customer, and the arched sash window is a wonderful design, an art form in itself which shows off the skill and dedication required. In addition to the windows, James Oliver was also asked to fit a black composite door – this modern entrance makes it picture-worthy, but also shows it’s a house not to be messed with.
