Is your conservatory one of the hundreds across the region that will sit empty for most of the summer because of a lack of thermal efficiency?
One of our roof replacements would address that problem, as you’re about to find out. We’re also going to alert you to the signs that a roof needs replacing, detail the different options and advise about planning permission.
Signs That a Conservatory Roof is Failing
- Leaking. A roof can be prone to leaking as it deteriorates.
- Sagging. If a roof sags, it’s an indicator of structural weakness, poor installation or debris buildup.
- Discolouration. Weathering, moss and algae growth often prompt discolouration.
- Water ingress. Any cracks in panels or seals increase the chances of water ingress.
- Mould. Lingering mould is a major structural and health risk.
- Damp and condensation. Typically brought on by inadequate roof insulation or ventilation.
- Moisture. A common byproduct of insufficient insulation.
Conservatory Roof Replacement Solutions
- Modern glass roofs. Advanced glazing sits in a modern glass roof replacement and is key to it realising incredible thermal performance.
- Tiled and solid roofs. For the lightest system, you want a tiled or solid conservatory roof. Capable of being fitted in no time, they provide elite insulation.
- Hybrid roofs. Get a mix of a glass and solid roof with a hybrid design. Featuring solid, insulated panels and glazed areas, it offers balanced light and insulation.
- Polycarbonate roofs. A polycarbonate roof may be extremely durable and cheap, but its thermal performance doesn’t match that of modern tiled and solid roofs.
- Roof lanterns. Set within a roof, lanterns are architectural centrepieces in lots of extensions and contemporary conservatories. Often, they include solar-control glazing.
Planning Permission and Building Regulations
Conservatory roof replacements can usually proceed without planning permission as they satisfy the criteria to be considered permitted developments.
But permitted development rights won’t apply if the original structure needs major adjustments to accommodate a new roof or the house is listed or situated in a conservation area.
There must be compliance with Building Regulations too. Installing a solid roof on an existing conservatory requires you to submit a Building Regulation Application.
