FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We have tried to address some of the door-related questions that you may have ahead of buying one of our door solutions.
Are all composite doors the same?

They’re not actually. A standard composite door will typically have a depth of 4mm and foam filling. On the outside, they have a GRP colour skin (also known as fibreglass) and are quite lightweight.

In contrast, a Solid Core composite has greater depth (48mm) and consists of laminated timber layers, which results in a more robust and more durable composite door than one that’s foam filled. The outer skin is made of UPVC, enabling you to colour match the door to the frame.

Depending on the type of composite door you want, you will find that the price differs between styles. Talk to a James Oliver advisor for assistance with composite doors.

Extreme Solid Core Door
Is it possible to have contrasting internal and external colours?

Absolutely! You’re more than welcome to select one colour for the outside of the door and a totally different finish for the inside e.g., white on the inside, red on the outside. There are no limitations as to the effect you want to create – the world is your oyster! Ask an advisor to show you our full colour palette.

MORE COMMON QUESTIONS

Our advisors are extremely knowledgeable, so if you have any questions, they will have the relevant answers. Here are some of the most common questions they receive.

How many keys will I get?

As standard, we will give you three keys with your chosen door – if you want more, you only need to ask at the time of ordering, and you can always get more made later.

Is it possible to have the same key for both doors? (Suited)

That’s no problem. Just inform the advisor when you are ordering your door and they will organise suited keys so that the same key works for both doors.

What is Secured by Design?

Secured by Design (SBD) is a Police-run scheme, established to design out crime and enhance the security of buildings, and their immediate surroundings, to make them safer.

SBD’s product-based accreditation scheme – the Police Preferred Specification – is the recognised standard for products that are purposely designed to discourage and minimise crime. It incorporates products like domestic windows and doors, and their accompanying components e.g., locks and hinges.

Conservatory Outlet (part of the Conservatory Outlet Group), our sister manufacturing company, is a registered Secured by Design member, and much of our product range has been tested to satisfy the standard. Worried about home security? Express this to a James Oliver advisor, who will advise accordingly.

What is a 3-star rated door barrel?

A 3-star rated door barrel is the most secure door cylinder that you can get, which has been proved in numerous security tests. In the door cylinder is unique snap-secure technology with a lockdown mode, there to stop the barrel from being compromised.

Can I completely fold back French doors?

You certainly can. Just request the inclusion of an egress hinge which will enable you to fully fold back the doors and give you the perfect garden view.

Should I buy a sliding patio or bi-folding doors?

If the rear of your home can accommodate a large door opening, bi-folding doors and sliding patio doors will fit in nicely and let you establish a huge outdoor opening. Because they completely fold back, bi-folding doors will give you a full opening into your garden. The slimness of a sliding patio door will afford you with an unobstructed view when it’s closed. Discuss all the door options with a James Oliver advisor if you’re struggling to choose between them.

Do you offer finance to help me pay for windows and doors?

Yes. To make life easy for you, James Oliver can arrange a variety of affordable and convenient easy payment finance options (subject to application & status). Applying for finance is simple and we promise you a quick decision. Everything can be sorted out with you in the comfort of your home or at your local James Oliver Showroom, so you can enjoy whatever you’ve set your heart on right away.

What do we need to do when our finance is approved?

If you’re arranging your own finance, you’ll need to call us as soon as you get the go ahead. If you’re taking up one of our offers, the company will tell us both directly, so there’s no need to call as we will get in touch with you.

What happens if finance is refused?

Finance companies can turn down people for lots of reasons, for example if you’ve moved several times over the past few years. In these circumstances, we always do our best to help and sometimes it’s worth trying another provider, especially if they know you.

I’ve applied for finance with James Oliver. How long will approval take?

Sometimes our finance company will say ‘yes’ almost immediately and on other occasions it may take them a few days. This short delay can be for any number of reasons and you should not be unduly concerned.
